Making the move from her Haitian homeland to the United States was a decision that changed Duckencia Chauvet’s life forever. However, next week, it will be the impact her business life has on others like herself that is leading to her brand-new venture.

With more than 15 years working in business and personal financial consultation for fellow immigrants in North Miami, the Port-Au-Prince native will launch her brand new Brightway, The Chauvet Family Agency insurance office Monday.

Today, Miami-Dade County is home to more than 100,000 Haitian immigrants, with nearly 300,000 hailing from the island nation now living across the Sunshine State.

“When it comes to moving to the States, there are a lot of things you have to adjust to,” Chauvet said.

“It’s good to have somewhere you can go where you can get the services you need and get them in a manner you trust. You trust what they do because they have been in the same situation.”

Chauvet, 34, and her husband, Vladimir, have worked in the North Miami business scene for nearly 15 years, selling services such as health insurance coverage and tax preparation. Family-owned business is something Chauvet was raised on. “Back in Port-Au-Prince, my parents have owned and operated a distribution company my entire life,” Chauvet added. “Knowing what customers want and being able to provide them with those services is a belief I’ve been raised on.

Married for 16 years, Chauvet and her husband, Vladimir, currently reside with their five children in Biscayne Park.
