After a career filled with 100-hour work weeks and a medical development that changed his and his wife’s lives forever, Greg Berrelleza is officially unveiling his family’s second chance at life.

The Greater Tampa businessman is putting his blue-collar roots to work as he launches a new agency in Lutz Monday. In partnership with Lisseth and Manuel Dominguez, Berrelleza will open Brightway, The Lakes Agency insurance office next week.

The career-long restaurant manager met his wife, Crystal, seven years ago. With five kids and five grandkids combined, the couple quickly saw their lives take an unexpected detour with Crystal’s cancer diagnosis five years ago.

First diagnosed with brain cancer just a year after exchanging their vows, Crystal, 43, saw her career as a cardiology technician stop indefinitely. And Greg, 48, found himself looking for a career that would allow him to focus on family, as well as provide for it.

“I had hit the wall in my restaurant career years ago,” Berrelleza said. “Looking for a change, I ended up in the insurance industry as an agent. And now, helping run this agency allows me to put the focus on both the customer and my family.”

Grabbing this American Dream is a path Berrelleza’s family is proud of. “My dad was a union meat cutter and my stepdad was a government contract worker,” Berrelleza added. “Our family has had to work to get what it wants all my life. It feels great to be able to hustle and make this family-based business take flight next week.”

Brightway, The Lakes Agency will be focusing on servicing Pasco County and the Greater Tampa Area. The Berrelleza family currently resides in Lutz.
